Valentine’s Day can be a polarizing holiday. You may love it because you’re in a fantastic relationship. You may hate it because you just got out of one. You may love it because it’s the best excuse to gorge on chocolate and you may hate it because you think it’s far too commercialized. Here at Australian Heritage Homes, we’re fairly certain that we have teammates in each of the categories, but there are a couple of things that we can agree on, the greatest being the love that you should have for your home.
They’re referred to as “labors of love” for a reason – all of the best things are. You put in what you get out. It’s similar to a relationship; if you treat the other person the way that you want to be treated, chances are good that the reverse will be the same. (And if that’s not the case, get out while you can!) But if it is the case, it’s a great reminder that the things that are worthwhile take effort, and in this case, that means maintenance and repair on your home. We hope that this is an area that you’re participating in all year round, but Valentine’s Day provides you the perfect excuse, just in case you’re not. Here are some great ways to give your home some love this coming February 14:
- Power wash any areas outside that have seen better days. You can find inexpensive power washers at many of your local area hardware stories, or even better, you can ask to borrow one from a neighbor. It’s a great excuse to get outdoors while you still can and get a good workout in as well. You’ll forget what your deck, patio or verandah looked like when you’re done!
- Get rid of anything you don’t need. Again, just like relationships, you don’t want clutter taking away from what really matters. We know that there are probably a bunch of boxes somewhere that you’ve been meaning to do away with. This is the perfect time. Your home will feel cleaner and more open and you can cross something else off of your to-do list.
- Buy yourself (and by yourself, we mean your home) something nice. Maybe it’s a throw blanket that you’ve had your eye on or new utensils for your kitchen; regardless of how you feel about it, part of the fun of Valentine’s Day should be rewarding yourself (again, rewarding your home) and doing something fun. Plus, it will put a great smile on your face.
- Create a memory in your home. Have a party – big or small – and remember that you designed your home the way that you did, or chose your home for the reasons that you did. Capture it through photos and through conversations that live far beyond Valentine’s Day.
We hope that you celebrate well. Questions? Please reach out to the AHH team. We’re here to provide you with the love and support that you deserve.
