Choosing a Custom Home Builder in 2018

Choosing a Custom Home Builder in 2018Choosing a custom home builder can be a tricky matter. You’re bringing in a relative stranger, to see your home, to change it and to interact with those closest to you. You’re taking a leap of faith that they’ll understand your vision and that they’ll be able to bring it to life. You’re crossing your fingers that the time and dollars that you’re about to invest, will pay off and then some. That’s not going to change, and we’ve touched on this topic before. But given that it’s a newer year, the entire vision and mission of Australian Heritage Homes bears reiterating.

For those unfamiliar, we come to the table with decades of experience. We’ve worked on every variety of terrain with every sort of customer. We’ve worked on the tightest of timelines and with the most frugal of budgets. Conversely, we’ve been fortunate enough to work on a variety of truly amazing and life-changing properties, at the grandest scale. All of these situations and adventures have led to a succinct list of tips and tricks on the best ways to navigate your custom home builder journey. Read on for some of our favourite and most relevant thoughts:

Do Your Homework

First and foremost, you need to do your homework. It will never pay off to shirk away from this portion of the to-do list. And we’re not just talking about a couple of quick search engine searches. Would you treat choosing a school or childcare provider the same way? Probably not. So, cross-reference. And more importantly, look for reviews! And then read them! They may have five stars, but only one review… and it’s from a family member of the custom home builder. Also, leverage your network. Talk to your friends and family, especially if they’ve recently had homes built. If you love the aesthetic and they have great things to say, that builder is a good place to start.

Feel Free to Ask Questions

Ask as many questions as you want. This doesn’t just apply to the aforementioned family and friends; it applies to the custom home builder of your choice as well. They should definitely have a Web presence, where you can check out examples of their work, but it goes beyond that. If you have a vision, they should help bring it to life and they should be able to explain to you how it will take shape.

Quality Always Comes First

Don’t trade off quality for value. We know, we know, we all want to save more dollars. But it’s risky and potentially dangerous to shift the focus that far fiscally, when it comes to your home. This is somewhere where you’ll lay your head each night, and start each morning. You’ll hopefully make dozens of memories and maybe down the road- gain a little value when it’s time to sell. Luckily, when you work with teams like the Australian Heritage Homes team, you don’t need to worry about this trade-off.
